União dos Escoteiros do Brasil

The Brazilian Scout Union (UEB) commissioned a study on the perception of Scouting in the country, aiming to identify challenges and opportunities for engagement and communication with families and potential Scouts. The goal was to expand the number of Scout members in Brazil.
The project combined several design research tools, such as bibliometrics, interviews, qualitative and quantitative surveys and focus groups. During the research, a second challenge emerged that led to the use of awareness notebooks—a tool used to collect firsthand information, directly from the target audience. In this case, it was necessary to obtain insights from children in different cities in Brazil. The method, which consists of a notebook with questions and playful activities about Scouting, proved to be an effective and ethical research methodology for this specific target group. The combination of these different methodologies allowed us to create a comprehensive and detailed overview of the perception of Scouting in Brazil, identifying the main challenges and opportunities for attracting new members.

The survey results were shared with the BSU communications and marketing team during co-creation workshops, which were used to develop strategies for strengthening the organisation’s communication and institutional image.
Finally, several folders were produced with regional survey data, presented in infographic format and accompanied by insights designed to support decision-making by the regional management of the Brazilian Scouts Union.
